Verified Purchase. Overall, for what it is, it is a good first step to understanding Flash CS4 as of this writing, Flash CS5 is out, so I don't know how the latest version of the book matches up. However, sometimes the steps in the tutorials don't actually work as advertised in the book and the problem with that is there is no real explanations about what you may have done wrong or how to fix it.

That's kind of the problem with these step-by-step tutorial books. You get a lot of "how-to's" without a clear explanation of the "how-come's. It took me 15 minutes to figure out how to get back where I needed to be during one excercise. Like I said, overall I think it's a pretty good tutorial book.

I would suggest supplementing this book with another. I picked up "Flash CS4 for Dummies" also, which I feel is a pretty good book to help fill in the gaps. If you want to learn Flash CS4, this is a great resource.

The lessons are well organized and detailed; they are easy to follow, with step-by-step instructions for each lesson. It was a pleasure to work through the book and I highly recommend it to anyone without any Flash experience.

ActionScript 3. Usually CIAB publications are top shelf. The Flash Professional CS4 misses the mark This makes the errors found in creation of the component txt files for the mineral action script a laborious task. The fact that Adobe Press does not offer corrections on the web site, really dumps the publication quality down a dark pit Wheres the copy editor when needed, I say boo on you Adobe Press, you were really smoking your breakfast when you sent this book to the bookshop.

This book was excellent for learning Flash CS4. I am taking this class online at ASU and this is the book we used. I am familiar with a lot of the Adobe line of "Classroom" books and they are very clear to read and understand. I would recommend any of the "Classroom" books for anyone who just wants to get a book and work through it by themselves.

For someone who was just finding interest in flash, I had no idea how to use it. I purchased this book and found it amazing. I really did, it showed me all the basics which the first chapters I could understand well since I am accustomed to Photoshop and Illustrator. Even if you are not, you wont find it difficult to understand. Everything is explained and you are guided in baby steps which allow you to really understand the sequence in the chapter.

I am on chapter 5 now and go home eager to learn more about this wonderful program through a guide which keeps me excited about learning, and not worried about understanding their lesson. I would recommend this book to anyone interested in learning Flash CS4. This book really wasn't as thorough as I would have liked. The problem is I now have Adobe Flash CS6, and they have changed so much that the steps in this book no longer work. This book really helped me a lot in learning how to create great animations for my videos, this was a great purchase for me and I highly recommend this to anyone wanting to learn this application. I was very sceptical about purchasing this book - I saw Flash as a complicated skill to learn that would take years of perfecting. I was proved wrong in an astonishing way. This book is absolutely fantastic - in 10 easy steps you learn how to create the most detailed graphics and animations, something I never thought I'd do. But after the first few "Lessons" I was feeling more confident. My favourite lesson has to be Lesson 4 where you create something which wouldn't be out of place on an official movie website.

All the graphics are provided on the disc, so it's simple and easy to get started. My only problem I had is that it skips a few steps in later lessons - it presumes that you'll know how to create the other elements that are already there for you, but reinforcement is needed to help you remember. Considering you can pay hundreds of pounds for lessons on how to learn Flash, I'd say don't bother. This book is fun, informative, and cheap.

You never feel out of your depth and it just talks you through the steps in a way that anyone could understand - I haven't been sat at my chair thinking, "What is it talking about? I was a bit trepidatious when ordering this Classroom in a Book - I am not usually that good with stuff like this but I have to tell you I followed each lesson and it was easy - ish. Anyway, working my way through each chapter never having set foot inside the Flash program before I got to grips with it first time around.

In fact I am in the middle of making Flash movies for somebody's website and I have already made some picture viewers for my own website. Get the book and get making Flash movies - I did. Report abuse. Bought this book as I needed to get the basics of Flash CS4 quickly and this helped me do it.

This is no substitute for actual classroom or video training but I found it useful for reference and to get the basics quickly. I purchased this as a present for my grandson, apparently he had something that had sat in his draw that this book would be useful for.
